Lumbini: Birthplace of Buddha

Lumbini is a significant historical and religious site, best known as the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, who later became the Buddha. Located in the Rupandehi District of Nepal, Lumbini is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts millions of visitors from around the world each year, particularly Buddhists who come to pay homage.

Lumbini is the place where Queen Maya Devi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama around the 6th century BCE. According to tradition, she gave birth to him while standing in the Lumbini Garden, holding onto a tree (sometimes depicted as the "Sal tree"). The birthplace is marked by the Maya Devi Temple, which is considered the central point of Lumbini.

Lumbini is accessible by air, road, and rail. The closest major airport is Gautam Buddha International Airport, located about 22 km from the site. Many visitors arrive via the nearby city of Siddharthanagar (Bhairahawa).

Lumbini offers a range of accommodation options, catering to different preferences and budgets. Whether you're looking for a simple guesthouse or a more luxurious stay, you'll find something to suit your needs. Most of the accommodations are located within or around the Lumbini Development Zone, which is the primary area for visitors.
